Modjo-Hawasa Expressway Construction To Start

Ethiopia has signed an agreement of 128.46 million USD on loan with the African Developmet Bank for the construction of Mojo-Hawasa expressway.

Representative of the African Development Bank in Ethiopia Miss Johsfin Nigur said, the agreement will have great contribution in the road and transport expansion activities the country is in to.

The Modjo-Hawasa highway which is part of the 201km Addis Ababa-Modjo-Adama expressway will be constructed in two chapters. The first chapter –Mojo to Batu road will fully funded by the African Development Bank.

Director in chief with the Ethiopian Roads Authority Zaid W/Gebriel said up on completion the highway will have enormous benefits for the Hawasa town, which is growing in high speed.

He told that the construction will start soon and that agreements are being signed with South Korea, China and World Bank to undertake the construction by dividing into four parts.

The plan is to finalize the construction of the expressway that enables 4 vehicles pass at a time, in 4 years, according to Zaid.

He also told that the Addis Ababa-Mojo-Adama expressway is soon to be finalized. The Hawasa-Kenya-Moyale road construction is also well underway without any delay, said Zaid.
